Food for hungry children

It has been estimated that there is enough food in the world for everyone, yet we need to appeal for food for hungry children. Even when economies across the globe show progress, hunger still remains the most crucial issue. There are many non-profit organizations working to bridge the gap between the food and people and it has indeed shown positive alterations but we are far from achieving a status of zero hunger. Studies show that 1 in every 9 people suffer from hunger. Studies reveal that the present hunger scenario kills more people than deadly diseases like tuberculosis, malaria and AIDS combined.

Developing and under-developed countries are most hit by the endemic issue of hunger. And millions of children below five years of age die to the effects of hunger like malnutrition and underweight. Even though 66 million children go to primary school, they are in the grips of hunger, in this case will these children be able to learn even basic lessons taught in the classroom? At this juncture it becomes evident that it is more important to provide food for hungry children than anything else. The mid-day meal scheme does something similar. The mid-day meal scheme provides free school lunch to children. And for many, this meal is the only meal they receive for the entire day. Akshaya Patra is one of the non-profit organizations that is providing mid-day meal to millions of children across India.

When we provide food for hungry children, we are also gifting them health. Join the mission of feeding children with Akshaya Patra. Click here to read more on the hunger status across the globe and India.
