Mayor visits mid-day meal NGO in Mangalore



The Akshaya Patra kitchen unit was recently visited by the Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation, Mahabala Marla. This centralised Akshaya Patra kitchen provides mid-day meals to more than 19,000 Government school children covering 145 schools. The NGO has been providing mid-day meals in Mangalore since December 2004 and was the fourth unit in Karnataka.

The Mayor was very pleased to see the kitchen operations, maintenance and adherence to hygiene, quality of mid-day meals in Mangalore and level of efficiency. He said that everybody should take part in this noble service and has also extended his support to Akshaya Patra. He congratulated the NGO in Mangalore for its good work and expressed the need to continue its service.

Akshaya Patra is currently implementing the mid-day meal programme across 10 states of India. In Karnataka, apart from functioning as a NGO in Mangalore, it is operational in Bangalore, Mysore, Bellary and Hubli. In total, Akshaya feeds 1.39 million children across India every day covering more than 10,600 Government schools.
