Akshaya Patra serving ‘unlimited food for education

Unlimited food for education’ is the motto The Akshaya Patra Foundation is working towards each passing day. By implementing the mid-day meal programme this Indian NGO wants to provide fresh and nutritious food for children. In doing so it indeed keeps in mind that along with serving fresh and nutritious food it should also be tasty and serve the local palate so that the child relishes each morsel. Akshaya Patra over the 14 long years of service has well understood the interrelationship between food and education. When as adults we cannot concentrate in our work with an empty stomach then how can we expect to learn and get educated with an empty stomach?

But along with providing food for children it is important to provide them nutritious food. Nutrition is an important aspect of a child’s diet. It is also a manner to address malnutrition. Thus, Akshaya Patra’s menu is planned meticulously to provide the needed nutrition to the growing child. Through #HungryForSchool campaign, the Foundation aims at addressing nutritional problems besides improving learning experience of children with a stomach full of meal. While preparing food for children, ingredients like fresh vegetables, cereals, beans and legumes and oil are used. A dairy product like milk in the form of ‘payasam’ is also served as a part of the menu. With these ingredients, the food for children provides them with their daily nutritional requirement of vitamins, minerals, calcium, carbohydrates, proteins, fat and other essential nutrients.

Dedicated and well versed experts at Akshaya Patra kitchens helps to create an interesting, tasty and all-inclusive nutritious menu. Thus, making meal time during each school day a wholesome one for millions of children. Yet, many more millions await this wholesome meal. Help us to sustain and expand our mission of providing food for education to 5 million children by 2020.

Feed a child today at just Rs. 750 for a whole year.
