Strategic development between Uttar Pradesh and Akshaya Patra

Indian NGO- The Akshaya Patra Foundation is strategically moving ahead with its expansion to reach out and feed more and more children in India. In a recent development between the Foundation and State Government of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav, laid the foundation stone for the Akshaya Patra’s kitchen in Lucknow. This will be the second kitchen in the state and the 20th kitchen of Akshaya Patra as a whole.

The ceremony was well attended by several members of the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, senior bureaucrats, and officials of the Mid Day Meal Scheme along with the Minister of Basic Education. At the event Akhilesh Yadav assured full support to Akshaya Patra in taking the initiative forward to other districts of Uttar Pradesh like Kannauj, Varanasi, Kanpur and Agra. He said Akshaya Patra was chosen as a partner to implement the Mid Day Meal Programme in the state due to its credibility and efficiency in running the programme. He added that his visit to the Vrindavan kitchen impressed him thoroughly of the operational process. Adding to Yadav’s support the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Jawed Usmani said this development is a perfect example of Public-Private Partnership.

The Uttar Pradesh State Government has allotted land and agreed to pay the cost of the meals as per the guidelines of the Mid Day Meal Scheme. This kitchen at Lucknow will be functional by June 2013 and will be a Centralized kitchen unit. This unit will have the capacity to feed 100000 children in Lucknow and its neighbouring areas.

Indeed it’s a significant step towards attaining Akshaya Patra’s mission of providing food to 5 million children. Get involved with Akshaya Patra and be a part in attaining this mission.
